In South Africa there seems to be a huge problem related to a scooter’s number plate and its size.

Basically almost all Vespa owners that go to the driving license test with a Vespa fail, not because they can’t drive, but due to the small size of the Vespa’s plate. According to traffic police authorities, the plates are too small and therefore illegal, which means that people don’t even start the test and are already failed.

Merle Lourens, part of the city traffic department, comments:

You have to make an adjustment to the number plate, unless the transport MEC gives you special permission. There was also an issue with Aston Martins (with small plates).

Currently, the number plates need to be bigger than 75mm.
