We have already mentioned the capabilities of the 2008 Yamaha YZR-M1, like the 24 podiums and 10 wins during the GP season, but that version can be forgotten because the upcoming 2009 model is much better, at least according to champion Valentino Rossi. The prototype bike was tested at Jerez, and Rossi said he was delighted with the performance. It doesn’t mean he ended the day with the fastest time, it was actually the second quickest time of the first day. His best lap time at Jerez with the 2009 model is currently 1:40.135, which was made on the 39th lap. The fastest time was made by Dani Pedrosa from Spain, with 1:39.525.

I am really happy with the performance of the new prototype. We have improved the engine performance and the chassis too, so it shows that Yamaha has not relaxed after winning the championship.
