Scooter sales are quickly increasing all over the world, from Europe to Asia and US, but one location that has recently seen a big boost in the scooter marketplace is Hawaii. According to Glenn Koishigawa who owns a bike shop called Cycle Supply, business is over 30% when comparing to 2007.

The reasons behind the boost are already pretty popular: gas is expensive, parking is almost always full, and going green is good for everyone. On the other hand, not having to use a helmet - only in Hawaii - when driving a motorcycle, moped, or scooter, must also count for something.

Joe Shimkonis of Kapahulu in Hawaii, has an interesting fact to share:

The richer they are, the more likely they are buying for parking, not fuel. They don’t want to spend all that time driving in circles in a garage looking for parking. I got guys from major brokerage firms, executives, doctors. I just had a neurosurgeon buy a scooter.
