Wonderful World of Scooters
Remember the 2009 Vectrix VX-1 that we mentioned a few weeks ago? Well, the model has been upgraded and right now there is a fresh VX-2 that was presented at the 2009 NY Motorcycle Show that took place a few days ago.
Thanks to the good looks and good mileage - 30 to 35 miles per charge - there were plenty of people admiring the scooter at the show. To make it even better, there is also a new VX 1-E scooter which will be available for sale during April, for $8,500, while the VX-2 will cost $5,200 and has a release date set for June. There are plenty of colors to pick when purchasing a Vectrix, including green, blue, red, and yellow.
In terms of performance, the VX 1-E can go from 0 to 50mph in 7 seconds, and has a top speed of 62mph.
Mike Boyle from Vectrix, comments:
The Vectrix is the perfect choice to replace cars for short urban trips. The shortest car trips are the most damaging in terms of global warming, air pollution and our dependence on foreign oil.
The Wonderful world of scooters, continues to grow in popularity amoung consumers, its expected to outsell motorbikes in China and developing nations by 2010.

The Vectrix is awesome. I love the basic idea, and think the VX-1 is a fantastic design. That being said the VX-2 is lame. $5,000 for a bike that tops out at 30 MPH? A bike that slow is useless. I live in Albuquerque, NM and there isn’t anywhere you could go, unless you stayed in residential areas or in the immediate downtown facility, and drive that slow. And bikes don’t perform that well at their top speeds, so 30 mph is probably bad news for that bike. Why put something like that out at all? They should hold off until the costs of the technology go down so they could put out a bike that tops out at 50 mph for the same price.

Dave The VX-2 has a governed top speed of 30 mph it is capable of higher speeds. Many states do not require a license for scooters that limit speed below 30. This could be a possible reason that this is done

There are plenty of people who live in cities who just want the ability to get around downtown and don’t leave the city all that often. That said it’s still a pretty hefty price tag.
