Feast your eyes on one of the best selling scooters in Europe. The scooter is of course the Honda SH125i, which has come out with a makeover from its 2009 edition. Not all Italians are unhappy with it, however, as it’s a top-selling machine even there, while the Spanish affectionately, if a little mysteriously, call it Scoopy.

The single-cylinder four-stroke engine is exceptionally smooth with a predictable power delivery through the automatic transmission, which makes low-speed manoeuvres such as U-turns a lot easier than with some scooters. Performance generally is very good for this class with a top speed of just over 60mph and strong enough acceleration to make getting there brisk enough.

With fuel prices rising again and many people looking to save on running costs, the SH is appealing for its 85mpg economy with low tax and other expenses and, of course, it slips through snarled traffic a treat. But you still get Honda build quality, which is leagues ahead of many other scooters and means better reliability.
