Benelli Facing Financial Crisis

“The recent plan was to produce 5000 bikes this year, but we couldn’t achieve it,” stated Benelli’s head of PR. The company has decreased 2009 production to under 1,000 units and many of the company’s 100 staff are working part time and obtaining government-subsidized salaries.
Benelli is facing a new financial crisis in spite of being purchased by giant Chinese scooter maker Qiang Jiang four years ago. In March, Qiang Jiang invested an additional $26 million in Benelli, but that hasn’t paid off in short term sales results. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds.

Benelli should be working on designing great new electric scooters, making more units that already aren’t selling is no answer, but with partners like the CF Moto and Malaguti electric scooter partnership, Piaggio has already gotten a great deal of money and somehow Benelli needs to advance the products, Italy has a great incentive in place if they get the products out
