Biking to compete is one thing but to ride for a cause is something that may be even better. About 50 solo and team riders will be riding from California to Maryland to participate in the world’s toughest bike race. The event is actually the 28th Race Across America event which will kick off in Oceanside, California today.

The aim is to raise $500,000 for ACCION USA, which will eventually provide loans to small business owners who want to grow their business which will likewise create more employment opportunities. If you will note, these are two critical areas that are suffering today due to the falling economy.

Competing in RAAM for the first time, and covering some of the harshest terrain and weather conditions known to man, Team SpinVox Adventurers - comprised of speech-to-text company SpinVox co-founder and CEO Christina Domecq and her teammate Ian Rolls - will be vying to beat the record for the fastest mixed team finishing time - eight days or less.
