City street congestion and rising gas prices have caused more Canadians to look to the scooter as a means of transportation. According to the Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council of Canada, sales of scooters have risen considerably over the last 12 months. In 2008, more than 10,551 scooters hit the streets of Canada. The organization compares this to 2004 when just 6245 scooters were sold in the country that year.

One of the largest dealers is Canada Motor Import or CMI. They sell SYM and Peugeot scooters. The company’s goals include getting a scooter into most homes and to encourage families to make their first vehicle purchase a scooter rather than a more expensive car.
