As the era of e-bikes continue to flourish, new safety guidelines are being drawn by various regions. The latest one comes from Ontario which has drawn positive feedback from customers thus forcing the Ontario government to lay out new safety requirements for e-bike riders.

Among the guidelines handed out included bans on e-bike modifications that would allow it to travel faster than 32 KMH. Another requirement is to make sure that these bikes satisfy a set braking distance of 9 meters at top speed. These new requirements thus join previous ones which included a maximum weight of 120KG, helmets and the age limit to which riders must be at least 16.

Indeed the new requirements have changed the category of electric bikes. But considering that people have turned to these two-wheeled transport solutions over the usual cars, the change was practically imminent. Safety comes first and for the e-bikes, this is important considering that riders barely have enough protection compared to the usual automobiles.
